    Firesteel is all I trust.

Posted by Bernardo on Feb 9th 2017

Being as active as I am outdoors (all my vacation time and 3 out of the 4 weekends a month) having gear you can depend on is vital. Well there's no other company I trust my fire starting equipment to other than FireSteel.com! I've tried every other rod and magnesium blocks and FireSteel.com by far hands down out performs them all. The Bunker is a great rod for the cold winters in the Adirondacks. Ron and the rest of the team are all stand up genuinely good people with phenomenal products they stand behind.

    Awesome product

This is exactly what I have been looking for. I get more sparks, Hotter sparks, and longer burning sparks than I did with my cheap ferro rod. I prefer using fatwood as my go to tinder, and this ignites it easily, and consistently. I recommend holding your knife 90 degrees on your fatwood, and scrape it into finely shaved layers. The Firesteel will then ignite that stuff with a fury. Thanks, Ron

    Around My Neck Right Now

Posted by Matt on Feb 4th 2017

I tied a piece of Type III Nylon (para-cord) to this fire steel using a constrictor knot. I always carry a knife, along with a small piece of fatwood in my pocket. This is a more sure fire method of starting a fire than strike anywhere matches, or even a zippo. Less to go wrong. This was my first order, and I am impressed with the product, as well as Ron's customer service. You've got a lifetime customer on your hands.

    Going into it's 5th year.

I got the Firesteel bunker over 4 years ago along with a couple of magnesium slabs, a magnesium rod, a couple of scrapers and two chunks of fatwood. I went nuts with this thing, making dozens of small fires and generally scraping the daylights out of it. After that I calmed down a bit and now only use it when lighting fires camping or hunting for just for a bonfire. I even light my charcoal grill with it. Even after years of use, I would say it still has 80% of it's material remaining. It's a little oval, but still thick and sparks like new. The scraper is a super valuable tool to have with this, it works fantastic for scraping a piece of fatwood into shavings for tinder, it shaves their magnesium blocks and rods very well and really makes a shower of sparks with the bunker. Their magnesium is REAL magnesium. It is soft, shaves very easily and burns better than even the genuine Doans GI issue mag fire starters. Don't even get me started on the crap the chinese sell as magnesium, you can't shave that stuff or light it with anything less than a blowtorch. What I do with the bunker to light a fire is make several bundles of twigs starting out with the very fine twigs at the tips of dead limbs (the size of match sticks) and work up bundle by bundle from there. I take a piece of bark, use the scraper to scrape a small pile of fatwood shavings (I'm still on the original piece by using this method) onto the bark, stand the bunker vertically with the end at the edge of the shavings, and stroke the scraper down the length of the rod in a smooth motion. You don't need to dig into the metal like the idiots on survival shows do, just scrape firmly down the length and it will shower sparks into your fatwood, which almost always lights on the first scrape. Then I hold the bundle of fine twigs over the burning fatwood until it ignites, lay it down on the bark and start adding larger and larger bundles as the last one gets going. Work every time for me. I grew up with kitchen matches in a Marbles match safe, but kitchen matches are such low quality now that you need something that is more reliable. If you have a firesteel bunker, a scraper and a piece of fatwood and/or magnesium, you never have to worry.

    The bigun

I have the Gobspark Armaggedon in my fire starting kit resting comfortably in my bob. The Bunker rests in my quick load get the hell out of Dodge long term survival kit. This thing is a beast and throws some amazing showers of sparks.. I will probably purchase a few more for car, truck family members as well. Great product can't go wrong with purchasing from fire steel.com.

Ordered the 4"x1/2" rod. Was delivered in a very timely manor. Gotta say, I mounted this rod in an elk antler as a handhold and this rod throws lightning bolts and fireballs!! Seriously, its a great product and I will be ordering more of them for my other kits

    Can't say enough!

Such a small price to pay for something that works. In general, 4 out of 5 products on the market today are junk. From stainless steel cleaners to tools. However, this product is ridiculous. I have many FireSteels from Mr. Fontaine, and there is a good reason for it: It is the best product of its kind on the market! I'm going to be less selfish this year and give out a few as gifts. With proper tinder, 1 - 2 strikes and you're on you're way.

Best Firesteel I have ever founder anywhere...

Posted by Michael Williams on Jun 24th 2016

I have been a customer of firesteel.com since 2015 and have bought the 1/2" by 5" Bunker & the 3/8" by 6" Armageddon. the Gobspark Ranger w/striker which I also bought the magnesium rod that I placed on my neck knife. And 2 Gobspark Armageddon w/striker handle that I gave as gifts. Which are all awesome....I do not buy firesteels from anywhere else. These firesteels are all top notch. I am a customer for life and I tell all my friends to buy all their Firesreels here. Strike any of these firesteels and enjoy the fire works of sparks.
