Excellent ferro rod
I bought two of these to test them before committing to more at a larger size and price. I had bought some competitor's models at a lower price, which were advertised as ferro rods, but, while they initially sparked well, they soon wore down to an inner ribbed metal of some sort which does not spark at all. These inferior models (5/16 X 3) would probably start about 15-20 fires per rod, depending on the skill of the user, but quickly become useless. FireSteel rods, in a smaller size (1/4 X 3) have not done this. I purposely scraped one side repeatedly to see if it would wear down to this point and though I scraped it enough to start probably 25 fires or more, it has not failed to throw heavy-duty sparks. I have no doubt that I could start well over a few hundred fires with this one small rod. I am planning my next purchase of these, but, as the ones I have are working very well, it may not be for a while. I will, however, purchase these again.

Small but Mighty
Great size - fits in an altoid tin even. But small does not mean it is not mighty. The rod throws a nice hot spark very easily. Love this little guy.

Best little fire steel for packing away...
... in small crevices in your pack, pocket, neck pouch, knife sheath, etc. I've put together fire making kit projects for my grandson's boy scout troop. The scouts make a loop for the end of the fire steel, a lanyard to connect a super scraper, and a soda straw full of cotton ball- petroleum jelly tinder. This all wraps up in a small package that can be tucked into a very small space. It doesn't take long for the scouts to get the hang of pulling the steel away from the scraper so they don't knock over their fire lay. They have also learned how to light a candle with sparks from their fire steels. This is my fourth 10 rod order. As more new scouts are added to the troop, more fire kits are needed. This little fire steel is a mighty spark maker! Received my order in less than a 4 day turn around which is great!

First-Class Ranger Ferro Rod
I always purchase all the ferro and magnesium rods I use, or give as gifts, from from FireSteel (and have for many years). I will say that I can't think I've every used a ferro rod that has thrown more hot sparks per strike, or been more enjoyable to use or teach others with, than these. However, high quality ferrocerium and magnesium rods are only a *part* of what you get when you deal with FireSteel. I don't think I have ever received such personal, first-class customer service from any other company I've ever dealt with, and THAT is the reason that keeps me coming back!! Thank you!

HIGH value & LOW cost firesteels!!
The 1/4 x 4" rod is a blast of hot, dependable globs of "fire" second to none! Thanks Ron for your attention to detail to provide me a super high quality fire product!!

Amazing amount of sparks
I bought these to throw in my backpacking firekit with some vaseline coated cotton balls and other tinder. After trying them out in the yard on the cotton balls, I had a lot of confidence in them. Usually it only took one throw of a shower of sparks to light. These are light and work extremely well. They have made me revamp my fire kit, by making them my primary ignition source. I put the rod and a coated cotton ball underwater, and they still lit immediately. Thanks for the great product!

Firesteel Ranger 2.5
I'm making some kydex knife sheaths with firesteel holders and had purchased several of the 5/16" x 3.15" Survival steels to use on them. When I started putting everything together I felt the Survival 3.15 was a little bit to big for my sheaths. So I ordered the Ranger 2.5 and they look perfect! Plus they throw tons of sparks just like their big brothers do. Firesteel.Com is my absolute #1 source for all my firesteel needs! Great products, great service and great prices. I'm a life long customer.
