Added a wood handle...great!
I just obtained a new bushcraft knife (a Bark River Gunny-Scandi) and traded out the stock sheath for a Bushcraft design from Sharpshooters Leather. The sheath has a loop for a 3/8" firesteel and I found the FireSteel with pre-drilled lanyard hole here. Instead of using the hole for a lanyard I drilled a 3/8" hole in a piece of Morta (8000 yr.old bog Oak) into which the rod fits and then drilled a 1/8" hole crosswise so that I could epoxy a 1/8" pin through the wood and rod...fixing the handle in place with extreme security. I've seen many 'custom' items like this for over $75...this one cost me $16 in materials and a few hours of labor. To finish the handle I used several files, 3 different grits of paper, 0000 steel wool and Pure Tung Oil. What? Oh, the FireSteel? Oh yeah. That's great too. I wouldn't have used it if it wasn't the best!

Great fire starter
These fire steel's are awesome, I've used them several times experimenting with different materials, just to see how well they work and the shower of sparks is amazing. I've had no problems with them, and the service of the FireSteel staff was excellent.

This Works
I bought 4 of these for a survival fire-starting course that the family attended, Mom, Dad (me), and our two sons aged 13 and 11. Not only were they easy to use and handle, but one of the course instructors wanted to know where we had gotten, "such an awesome big ferro rod" DEFINITE must have! Eight thumbs up!

Firesteel Armageddon w/ Lanyard Hole
Great product! Throws great sparks and the lanyard hole makes for easy carrying using a carabiner attached via 550 cord.

Great product
I am a wilderness survival and outdoor expert, I have used many different fire steels. None of them though can compare to the prices and the quality of firesteel.com fire steels.

Fire in the rain!!
This steel throws a ton of sparks. Enough so that with a small pile of pitch wood shavings and one stroke with the back of my knife we had good fire started in "less-than-ideal" conditions.

Great Product
I have used other firesteels and this is the best I've encountered. The lanyard hole allowed me to attach some reflective paracord, which makes the firesteel easier to hold and harder to lose track of.
