    Essential survival gear

Posted by Jack from WV on Aug 6th 2012

I've purchased about 5 of this identical FireSteel Armageddon over the last 2 years or so. I keep one (with a magnesium strip) on a para cord lanyard for hiking or hunting. I keep the same rig on my keys, one in my bug-out bag, one in the car and one in the mini bug-out bag in my saddle bag. The lanyard hole is very practical (I've purchased one without and it's just too easy to misplace). The scraper is very well made. Sturdy. Any hiker, biker, prepper, hunter or boy scout shouldn't be without one. These things are thick and sturdy with plenty of length to throw a shower of white hot sparks to start up a mass of tinder. It's easy to use and just better than a lighter or matches when it comes down to survival fire starting or just showing it off to your buddies. I usually order these just thinking I'll toss one in here or there in case I need it. No hurry. But I think every one I've ordered usually arrives in about 3 days. Oh...one more thing. Don't confuse these with those cheap little fire sticks that come in some package with some cheap knife you won at the lodge. Those break. FireSteel is the only one I'm going to trust when it comes time that I NEED a fire.

Best fire steel I have ever used!

In less than 15 minutes my grand daughters, ages 9 and 11, made fire! What else can I say? I will be purchasing more of these great fire steels in the future!

    Perfect for Alaskan Wilderness

Posted by Matt on Jul 22nd 2012

I have camped, hunted and hiked in Alaska for nearly 30 years, experiencing weather as cold as -65 degrees F. I have purchased several other inferior firesteels made by other companies. The Armageddon firesteel is the best on the market. With a bit of practice, the Armageddon will start a fire every time. I carry tinder in a small waterproof matchbox to make darn sure that my fire will start, even in pouring rain. The Armageddon is perfect when your life may depend on starting a fire.

    Great compact fire starter

Posted by Backyard BushCrafter on Jul 22nd 2012

I purchased this large-diameter ferro rod with the scraper and lanyard. It is bare-bones without a handle, but is large enough to use easily and small enough to store in your pack without trouble. Both the rodd and the scraper are top-notch.

Be Confident That You Can Make Fire

Posted by Howard T on Jul 21st 2012

I have the Armageddon with magnesium rod and scraper on a lanyard. In fact I have several now stashed in outdoor gear and vehicles so that I am never without the ability to easily make fire. They are big enough to handle easily and are not fragile. This firesteel and scraper makes crackling streams of long lasting sparks that will set just about any tinder on fire that a flaming match would. Scrape off a pinch of magnesium and throw the sparks to it, and you can set just about any flammable material afire. You don't have to be an expert or have perfect tinder to make fire with this combination.

Kept us warm in freak cold snap

Posted by Dave L. on Jun 27th 2012

Found myself unprepared for a freak cold snap in Southern California mountains in June. Below freezing weather in the morning had my hands numb and my five year old not a happy camper. One strike on this easy-to-hold-with-frozen-hands firesteel had my tinder going in seconds. Five minutes later we were warming our hands and feet by a merry blaze. Matches or a lighter would have been impossible in the shape my hands were in!

    top quality

Posted by Matt on Jun 24th 2012

this is by far the best fire steel type product I have come across. I have gotten some from various places and this is the easiest and most prolific striking fire steel of all of them. I am debating picking up a couple more to stash in various places so I can one with me in most circumstances. The SHTF can happen whenever or where ever and having the ability to make fire can equal life.

    Will be buying more

Posted by Dave L. on Jun 17th 2012

Excellent product. Better sparks than other products out there. Fits in jumbo ibuprofen bottle from Costco along with enough cotton balls for a month's worth of fires (& a plastic baggie inside to hold a few with Vaseline for wet conditions)
