Description

This item pairs our RED Palm Scrapers** with a 3/8 x 3" Magnesium Tinder Rod and string them together with a 2' length of 550 paracord.  Add a FireSteel.com FireSteel toggle and you have a fine kit that is compact and value-priced!

The Magnesium rod fits comfortably in the cavity of the Palm Scraper.  To to use your kit, simply pull the magnesium rod out of its cavity and use the Palm Scraper to  create a small pile of magnesium shavings, about what would fit on a small coin, in the location where you would like to start your fire.   Magnesium burns at 4000 degree F.  When a spark from your favorite FireSteel.com FireSteel hits the pile of magnesium shavings, the magnesium will burst into a white hot flame that will work even in damp conditions.  Magnesium burns HOT but also very quickly, so make sure to have some twigs or other kindling handy to feed your magnesium fire.

NOTE:  The magnesium in this kit is meant to be used as tinder.  When you scrape the magnesium rod, you will not obtain sparks.  You will obtain the best quality magnesium shavings to start your fire.  We recommend pairing this kit with one of our FireSteel Toggles or any of our FireSteel Rods in order to start your fires.

NOTE:  The RED Palm Scraper in this kit was originally designed to click into the RED GobSpark Armageddon handle only (now sold out).  The Orange, Black and OD Green-handled GobSpark Armageddon FireSteel we currently sell sport an updated design that is not compatible with the RED Palm Scraper in this kit.  We recommend purchasing a new Palm Scraper for use with the later-model Orange, Black or OD Green-handled GobSpark Armageddon FireSteel.

    Best magnesium on the market, soft and easy to scrape, and the red scraper has storage for either a magnesium or ferrous rod, is sharp on all sides and scrapes sparks, like no other. It's a perfect size for all hands and a must for anyone who doesn't have a lot of grip or hand strength. Perfect addition for my son's and wife's fire kit, plenty of handle and no worries about them cutting themselves,, as could happen when using the spine of their knives.

    I have not used this a ton, but in the few times I have used it, it is one of the easiest magnesium blocks/rods on the market to scrape shavings off of. The handle and scraper combine to make it very simple and comfortable to use, making a great combination. I will update after this upcoming camping season, when it will get a lot of use.

    So I got my little kit with the red palm scraper and the piece of magnesium. I wanted a larger rod so I got the armagedon 3.0 instead of the toggles they suggested to go with it. The palmscraper made it easy to get a nice pile of shavings off of the magnesium rod and then it was even easier to get some sparks from the ferrorod. The whole thing went up in flames so fast that I wasn't ready for it! Great job, Firesteel.com!
