Good Size for Making a Fire

Posted by AL on May 21st 2011

Out of the 5-pack of all sizes of firesteels the Armageddon is my favorite size firesteel. They are all good, but this one works best for me, carry it everywhere.

    As Advertised

Posted by James Croft, Alaska on May 21st 2011

I wanted to replace my old mag bar and firesteel so bought several of these firesteel.com firesteels with magnesium. Pleasantly surprised by the big sparks these give and the magnesium helps damp material to catch on fire. Will be ordering more for gifts this holiday.

Great product and timely arrival. Get the super scraper for some serious sparks! And as always, learn your gear before you rely on it.

    Great Fire Gear

Posted by Kenby, Johnson Vermont on May 21st 2011

The magnesium is really soft and easy to scrape off into a small pile. Mix in some small pieces of wood shavings, leaves, or dry pine needles. One spark from my FireSteel.com firesteel and the pile went up in flames. First try! It's fun!

Fire Steel and para cord steals the show

Posted by Tom on May 20th 2011

Fire Steel and para cord steals the show at a Boy Scout Order of the Arrow ordeal My son was selected for entry in to the elite arm of the Boy Scouts of America, The Order of the Arrow. This is a BSA honor group and the boys who are selected are boys who have shown the most integrity and intestinal fortitude and their willingness to serve others. Well the Ordeal is a two or three day event where in the candidates are sent off away from everyone to fast and meditate. Well the first night of the Ordeal my son had built himself a debris shelter which he learned how to do from this site It began to rain heavily just before most of the boys and adults had gotten any fires started. The Rain was cold and the temperature began to drop quite a bit. My son who was prepared had the Armageddon firesteel with him that I had given him as a gift for his accomplishments in BSA. All of the other scouts and adult leaders were struggling with trying to get a fire going. My son found some paper birch trees and pulled off some of their bark for tender. He then scouted around and found an old birds nest in a Cedar tree. He collected it and returned to his campsite. Within a few seconds he had scraped his Armageddon fire steel and the sparks flew in to the dry bird's nest and ignited it. Within 5 more minutes my son had a nice cozy fire going about 6 feet in front of his debris house. He leaned back against the inside wall and before long he leaders coming over to his campsite asking if they could borrow some of his fire to get theirs going. They were ALL amazed at him getting a fire going in the rain. One of the leaders had seen him and had told the others. The next day, My son and the Armageddon Fire Steel were the talk of the entire Order of the Arrow weekend. When he returned home he told us of how he had camper after camper including the adult leaders coming to him and asking him how in the world he had a warm, cozy fire in the rain and he maintained it all night. He humbly told them that his dad had taught him how to build fires and had given him the fire steel. He told them that he had watched some of the demonstration videos on your site and along with what his dad had taught him, he was confident that he could build a fire in any condition. When he left that Sunday morning he said that about a hundred and fifty boys and adults had asked him where to get the Fire Steels. He told them of this site and said that they would not be disappointed. He was right, we as a family have used the Fire Steels many times and the para cord has saved our bacon an unknown number of times. We have used it over and over for building shelters, lashing poles together, tying down cargo loads, we have even used it to build a mesh covering in the building of debris huts. The limbs and twigs that we tucked down in the para cord nets were held tightly and when the rains came, they shed the water and the inside of the debris huts were nice and dry and very comfortable. We have given away several feet of the para cord and have bought several hundred feet of it. We look for nothing else when it comes to needing cordage, if we have chosen not to make our own out of grasses or reeds. Your products are outstanding and we wouldn't use anything else. Keep up the good work and your pricing is very reasonable, especially in this day of economic concerns. FireSteel.com Thank you

    My Compliments

Posted by Andrew on May 20th 2011

I just wanted to pass on my compliments to you and your operation. I recently ordered 3 Armageddon rods and scrapers - I was impressed with the scraper quality and with both the communication and speed of shipping. I plan to keep one set in the truck, one in the duck boat and give one to the wife.
