Using a knife or firesteel scraper, simply scrape the soft magnesium tinder rod to create a pile of magnesium shavings.
Spark your firesteel onto these shavings, which will catch on fire and burn very hot.
Note: magnesium rods only => scraper and firesteel shown in the pictures are sold separately.
Simply scrape off a small pile shavings using your knife or FireSteel scraper.
When you apply a flame or spark from from your firesteel the magnesium shavings will catch on fire and burn at 4000 degrees F (2200 degrees C).
This extremely high temperature makes magnesium an excellent tinder for helping you start fires with damp wood.
Your soft magnesium rod is naturally waterproof - will stay dry even if dunked in water.

I bought the magnesium rods to be used as a paracord project for my Boy Scout Troop. The rods were delivered very quickly and we're perfect for what we need.

Lanyard hole is sized to allow 550 cord (Parachute cord) to go thru.
The headline says it all.

I carry the 1/2" x 3" mag rod w/ lanyard hole for emergencies.

Just what I wanted and even better with the "add a lanyard hole" option. Saved me the trouble of drilling it out myself. Quality, good price and super fast shipping!

The rods are very light and soft. It doesn't take much effort to scrape some shavings.
Instead of making the quarter size pile of shavings to get a fire going, I often just scrape a little bit of magnesium into a harder to light tinder.
Great if you live in an area where spark-friendly tinders are not as easy to find or prepare.

A little duck tape with some magnesium scraped on to it lights instantly in any weather conditions and the magnesium does not blow away in the wind!

Excellent product. When I piled up the chips and hit it one time with the GobSpark, I had a white hot inferno almost instantly! Since, scraping small chips in windy conditions can be a challenge (blow away) so I'm working on pigtails skill, but I'm sure that's true of any magnesium source.

This is good Magnesium for fire starting. It is soft and scrapes off the rod in perfect pigtails for making a good pile to strike. It burns hot and started in the rain during my first outing. Good stuff.

I've used a few different types of magnesium, and this is by far my favorite. The cheap bars from the common brands are way too hard, and others I've tried don't burn right. This stuff is soft enough to easily scrape will the small scraper sold here, and burns real nice, and catching the spark easily.

I purchased several of these to add to my firesteels and LOVE them. Use the scraper to shave some off, a few strikes with their firesteel and you have a perfect way to get a fire started. The material is far better than those cheap 'bars' you can find at the big box or major outdoor stores, with a lanyard hole, pairs nice with the scraper and firesteel and weighs nothing.

This is an excellent product, the magnesium is soft & very pure. It scrapes very easily & will produce a good pile of dust for tinder. Ignites quickly. I wear one on my necklace with a firesteel when backpacking. This is the place I come to for my firesteel needs.
