Don't let our smallest firesteel fool you - it makes plenty of sparks to start a fire when you need one because it is made of the same special ferrocerium formula used by its larger FireSteel.com FireSteel relatives.

We purchased these to put into small survival tins for our children. We have went to great lengths to teach them how to use them properly and they are extremely good for those small kits!

I've carried a miniature ferrocerium rod wrapped in a cotton ball and masking tape in my wallet for years. It has been quite handy several times. When I recently bought a GobSpark Armageddon, I went ahead and got several FireSteel miniatures to give to new Boy Scouts when they joined our Troop, so they could add it to their "10 Essentials" pack. I was so impressed with how much better they were than the one I'd been carrying, that I replaced my old one with a new one. It's GREAT!

For the size of this firesteel, it still does a surprizingly great job! It's in my altoid tin kit. They fit really well. You could even go up a size or two and still fit well.

I am a repeat customer and have had very good success with these small firesteels.
I use the three small sizes to attach to wood to make them almost unbreakable. When attached to a striker with a thong, every thing you need to start the fire is together. I also wrap them under the paracord handles on some of my knives for emergencies and have a striker notch on the butt of the knife to keep from ruining the cutting edge.

I gave the smaller FireSteel a 4 but NOT because I'm dissatisfied with it. I'm a 1/2 x 4" FireSteel "Junkie!" I am sending my Ethan Becker BK-2, BK-9, and BK-11 knives to a machine shop to have the topside of the tangs machined to inlay / industrially bond the smaller FireSteels to them as a permanent
"last best option"for Survival Firecrafting. The knives are ALWAYS with me so I'm spending a little more to insure that a fast, dependable means of starting an unplanned survival campfire will always be with me as well. I will submit a photo of the finished product to FireSteel.com for anyone that might be interested in it.

Great product, arrived quickly, so much better and cheaper than buying something else and breaking the handle off. Will fit in any kit

These are absolutely the best size on this website if you want to make sure you always have a reliable fire starting method. They are perfect to place inside a strand of paracord or even put in the stock of a .22.
They fit just about everywhere, and for the price there's no reason not to buy a bunch and put them in all your jackets bags kits and other assorted gear items.

Just got both mini steels and the work excellent! Once you get this little beast going it just rains sparks where you need them the most! I had no trouble holding it, despite its size, and it fits excellent in my Survival Capsule. Thanks!

Perfect size to place in a paracord zipper pull. That way you can have access to fire on all your gear.

It's bigger than expected(because we don't use inch as units). Though small, the spark is BIGGER than any one I bought before!!
A little bit hard to hold, but great for small packs.

Like others have said, it works but you need to be good at it. Holding it with my multitool while striking it with my knife produces the most sparks. Since it produces less sparks, it really helps to have better tinder. Vaseline coated cotton balls or dryer lint light the first dry, natural material takes more work. I keep these taped to my pill bottles of vaseline coated cotton balls as a back-up while hunting or fishing.

I have several firesteels and love them all - this one is very small and could be ideal for tiny survival kits, I followed the instructions that are given with each order and know many people have had success with this small firesteel. Plus, you can buy any size firesteel you want - from the diminutive mini to massively large magnum!

Pop one of these in a .22LR casing together with some JB weld or what have you, then drill a hole through the case and rod to attach a split ring or d-ring.
Total cost of a nice present/keychain firesteel, about $1.
