Magnesium burns at more than 4000 degrees F. Using your knife or FireSteel.com Super Scraper, simply shave off a small pile of magnesium shavings, about what would fit on a small coin. When a spark from your favorite FireSteel.com FireSteel hits this pile of magnesium, the shavings will burst into a white hot flame that will even help ignite damp kindling. Use caution when using magnesium as tinder, since the shavings can pop violently as they ignite. Your magnesium shavings will burn WHITE HOT but very quickly, so make sure you have some kindling and larger pieces of wood ready to build your fire.
A great advantage of carrying a magnesium bar for tinder is that it is totally waterproof. Dunk it in a stream or lake, soak it in the rain - no problem - your tinder will still burn as hot as ever. Great for emergencies or starting your backyard bonfire!

White Hot, Comes off easy
Most, if not all, mag bars I've used in the past were way too hard to shave. In a survival, with possible loss of dexterity, this could be a huge issue. With this bar, the shavings came off like butter, just using the amazing scraper also bought here. The shavings were the right size to catch a spark while still being airy. I couldnt be happier. I know that when it counts, this will be there.

I have never used magnesium to start a fire. Apparently the magnesium bars I have had in the past were fake imports. They did next to nothing. I figured it was a big waste of time, money and energy. I was very, very pleased with this piece of magnesium. It was soft enough to shave easily with the spine of my knife and took a spark immediately and burned brightly to start the rest of my tinder. I am going to add your magnesium to all of my fire kits now. (everyone one needs several or 4 or 5 fire kits right?)
