Burning MagnesiumUsing a knife or firesteel scraper, simply scrape the soft magnesium tinder rod to create a pile of magnesium shavings. Spark your firesteel onto these shavings, which will catch on fire and burn very hot. |
These soft magnesium rods can be used to help start a fire, especially if your wood is damp or wet.
Simply scrape off a small pile shavings using your knife or FireSteel scraper.
When you apply a flame or spark from from your firesteel the magnesium shavings will catch on fire and burn at 4000 degrees F (2200 degrees C).

I tried out the half-inch diameter, three inch long rod. It's a comfortable size and fits nicely in the pocket. It is significant in girth, but not unwieldy.
The rod shaves nicely. For cold or gloved hands, I'd suggest a lanyard. The lanyard allows easier gripping in a way which allows more of the rod available for scraping.

These magnesium rods are small and very light in the hand. It fits on my key chain with my firesteel. They sell at a great price, and are made here in the good old USA. The holes in the tinder rods makes it easy to put lanyard through them, but I use a key chain ring instead. I will be ordering more in the future at this price. This is a great product.
Sincerely

For the purpose that you would use this Mg Tinder Rod for, it's hard to beat.
The magnesium rod is small enough to fit in a pant pocket without any troubles, and if you get the one with the lanyard hole drilled in it, then you can put it on one of those keychain rings you find in hardware stores and add it to your keychain or a lanyard with a Firesteel complete tool setup, or, just a Firesteel Rod with a lanyard hole in it too.
At the low price these are being offered at, I am sure they will catch on real quick once folks start finding out how long they last and how small a space and weight they take up! :-)
Certainly these magnesium tinder rods are inexpensive enough to buy a couple to try out and experiment with for yourself.
As for me, I am ordering a dozen more of them along with and equal number of the new Super Strikers too! :-) Those work fantastic too. But, that is another story! :-D
Hopes this helps my fellow outdoors Brother's and Sister's.
Cordially,
