Excellent fire steel. This 1/2 x 5 will be easier to use in cold weather.

I have always carried some form of flint/steel or ferrocerium as part of my wilderness kit. I have tested this Firesteel 5" many times since purchase using natural tinders & carbon-steel knife in various weather conditions & it is producing enough high tempertature sparks to ignite even in a damp environment.
As well, it would appear to be going to last for a long time even with daily use. This is the best ferrocerium I have come across & aside from seeming very easy to use regularly under normal conditions with good tinder, I feel I also have a high quality tool to handle emergency scenarios.
Lighters & matches are not always reliable in certain weather. Although I carry several mechanisms for fire starting when I go out, the Firesteel will likely be the number one choice in certain emergencies as I know it will be reliable in situations where I am in bad weather & may be under stress & since it can ignite many natural fiber tinders if necessary.
Lastly, it's compact enough to carry in your survival kit so it's with you at all times. Very good product. I will likely be buying more as backup & for family to carry. For me, less than 5" might be a little less effective. Longer would be fine but then you may be starting to get into the portability tradeoff.

What's big and starts fires? This thing.
In short, it works.

With other varieties of similar needs and use, I've had them literally break in my hands, after using only a few times; either the actual flint or break from its handle. After a good amount of searching and researching I found a true higher quality in FireSteel.
Having "bear paws" I've tried, with great ease, making fire! I've tried from dried grass to leaves, newspaper to notebook paper, various bark to pine needles and made fire every time. However my need was for a length of 2 1/2 inches, even after carefully cutting in half, with such a small area to work with fire was made!
In one word "Excellent" or even "Outstanding"!!
Like the old saying "Ya get what you pay for"

I have used all kinds of fero rods. These are simply the best and the only ones I purchase any more. Don't waste your time with others. Great product, good price. Bottom line...I trust them.

Great product, and if you are teaching kids (in my case cubs and scouts) this size is easy to grip for smaller hands. The sparks are large and bounce all over the tinder and remain burning for a split second. We used a closed Opinel knife for scraping the steel, good solid edge and easy to hold, and since it has a locking blade it is approved for cubs and scouts. Firesteel shipping was fast.

Great product and fast shipping! Throws a huge amount of sparks which has helped ignite marginal tinder bundles. Couldn't be happier.

Great Firesteel rod. Extremely hot sparks when scrapped. I will buy again when this rod runs out, which will be awhile.

WONDERFUL products, let's off burning balls of molten material while others makes sparks. Comparing other brands of firesteels is like comparing the amount of sparks you get when striking metal to concrete. When striking the Firesteel.com firesteel it's similar to scooping up molten lava and putting it in your tinder bundle. It sticks to the scraper and burns away at it while you try to figure out what to do next.

I ordered this because Ron has such a great price. After receiving this in the mail, I was just in awe of how freakin' huge this thing is! Seriously, I don't think I could use this thing up if I tried!
I also ordered 3 super scrapers and they work amazing and are good quality. They will definitely be in my pack.
For the price, and sheer quantity of firesteel that you get, I don't think you can beat firesteel.com
Great product at an unbeatable price! Thanks Ron.

There's a reason there are so many great reviews on these firesteels. I heard about these a while back and wanted to try them and since getting a few and starting fires I have to say I will not be going back to other brands. The bunker is what I'm reviewing but I bought others such as the mini (it fits great in a wallet as does the pup). They're all made out of the same great quality it just depends on the size you want. I like this bunker its pretty big (bigger than the pictures dictate), in conjunction with the scrapper it does great. I highly recommend these firesteels and the service is great as well.

This baby sparks with delight and vigor. Works best when using the back of a high carbon steel knife but any good striker will work. This is the best I have ever used and going to have a sheath made just to make sure I always have this one with me.EXCELLENT!!!!

You could light literally millions of fires with one of the Bunker sized FireSteel.com rods, and still have a few match-sized left. These are must-haves for any survival kit or other outdoor equipment pack you are building.

Thank You Ron for an exceptional product and a very speedy delivery.
This will be my second review of the Bunker Fire Steel tool, as my first review is in the review section below. I was so impressed from the first Bunker Fire Steel that I had to purchased two (2) more, just to have in each of my vehicles, should I ever break down 50 miles from nowhere and have a need for a fire. Thank You Ron for providing an easy and functional fire tool to make a fire in any weather condition.
Thank you for a Job Well Done.

Thank You FireSteel.com, Job Well Done.
I really like the size of the Bunker, it has a real nice solid feel to it and is able to produce a lot of sparks, even for someone who has never had any experience with a fire steel before.
As this is my first experience with a fire steel, I wanted to verify the ability to start a fire as easily as with a match or lighter.
I was Very surprised at the ease of starting two fires with the Bunker fire steel. One with a cotton ball and bees wax, the other with a cotton ball and petroleum jelly, both started with no problem, which at the time I was outside in about a 20 plus mile per hour wind and the temperature - mid teens with snow on the ground, in other words very cold and windy. I tried matches and the lighter.
Both failed in the wind, but the Bunker performed and got the cotton balls started.
I no longer need to carry matches or a lighter with the Bunker Fire Steel. The matches/lighter Do Not work well at all in Winds.
With the ease of making a fire in any condition since I been using it the Bunker Fire Steel, will be my only fire starting/carry tool now both at home and/or in the field.
Thank You for a very impressive Fire Steel tool.
