If the ability to make fires is important to you, this is the FireSteel to get.

People are calling our GobSpark Armageddon "the best firesteel in the world".

But don't take our word for it: read the reviews below and decide for yourself.

It's not just a firesteel. It's a firemaking system.

The GobSpark Armageddon FireSteel starts with an ulta-unique FireSteel Handle attached to a big World famous FireSteel.com FireSteel.

But there is much more:

  • A BIG, ROBUST firesteel on a Robust Handle - the firesteel is a full 3/8ths-inch in diameter and 3-inches long
  • An innovative handle designed for the firmest grip - even when your hands are cold or wearing gloves.

And you can choose a great FireSteel Scraper:

  • The innovative Super Palm Scraper™ handle with an ultra-hardened alloy blade - rave reviews for the shower of sparks it creates when applied to the GobSpark.  Grasp the Palm Scraper handle in the palm of your hand or glove for a great grip even when wearing gloves or your hands are numb from the cold.

Easy to Use with Gloved or Cold Hands

Imagine trying to start a fire with hands numbed from the cold or while wearing gloves. A small blocky firesteel handle may be very difficult to hold onto.

But using a GobSpark™ Armageddon and Palm Scraper presents no problem, even with gloved hands.

I KNOW these work because I use them myself in the Great North Woods, where winter temperatures routinely dip to minus twenty degrees and lower.  No need to remove my gloves to light my fire! My hands remain toasty warm inside my mittens.

In fact, if the GobSpark Armageddon didn't work, I'd be dead. Hows that for product testing!"

Easy to Aim Your Sparks onto the Tinder

To use this special FireSteel Handle (see video below as well as the pictures)

  1. Place the handle in the palm of your hand so that the firesteel lays between your index and middle fingers.
  2. Position your hand palm-down and place the FireSteel Rod next to your tinder.
  3. While holding the firesteel handle tightly, scrape the FireSteel rod hard and fast in one fluid motion

This will produce a massive shower of white hot 5500 degree F sparks aimed directly at your tinder.

The special shape of the handle allows for creative attachment to your belt or gear.

The FireSteel Palm Scraper™

This great piece of American-made gear securely snaps onto your GobSpark Armageddon FireSteel, serving double purpose as a protective case.  The rectangular shape fits snugly into the palm of your hand or glove, so that you can scrape sparks from your firesteel even with heavy gloves on your hands or when your fingers are so cold you can hardly move them - potentially a life saver when you are freezing cold or wet from an overturned boat etc.

If you already own a GobSpark Armageddon or just want a Palm Scraper, you can purchase the Palm Scraper separately.

Here is a testimony that came recently came in:

"I teach primative firemaking to Boy Scouts, showing them all sorts of technologies that don't require a match, some dating back hundreds of years. In the firesteel section, I show them a few cheap versions, and the circle comes in closer. Then I pull out my GobSpark Armageddon and throw a few sparks and they instantly jump back as sparks dance down the picnic table and fall off the other side. Really, REALLY impressive!"
-Mike B

And another:

As close to perfection as I've seen in a ferro rod system

Posted by SteveG on Mar 21st 2015

Nothing compares to these. The real test, with gloves on, half frozen hands, shivering, and in the dark...the Gob Spark is still easy to use and always gets the job done. Typically one strike = fire (if you have done your job and prepared your tinder, of course) Commercial tinder, improvised tinder, even slightly damp tinder, they all light with ease. The big, long lasting sparks are essential for damp, cold environments.

I've demonstrated the Gob Spark in full, brilliant sunlight and still get a "WOW!" from those that see it in action. Gob Spark is the name and giant gobs of sparks are what you get.

But a better testament to just how good this product is: I grab it first, before the Bic and before the matches. It's just that damn good.

I really can't tell how long it will last. I've struck sparks with it several hundred times and it barely shows wear. Sure there are bright streaks and a little flattening of the rounded profile, but that amounts to negligible wear so far. It will last many years for me and probably a lifetime for most.

It is big and the handle makes it bulky, but when your hands are stiff from cold and you are shivering and unsteady, the large handles on the Gob Spark and it's striker make fire starting a simple task instead of a chore.

This is the best of the best.

Thank you, Steve.  You've expressed exactly why I invented the GobSpark!  - Ron.

  1. Simply The Best

Posted by Chris Bastian on Aug 25th 2015

I have tried 4 other makes of fire steels and thought they were all pretty much the same. Then a friend showed me his Gobspark Armageddon Firesteel and what I saw was amazing. The other steels worked but took more effort and concentration; two commodities you may not have an abundance of in an emergency situation. One push on the Gobspark produced lots of hot sparks that burned far longer than the other guys. I spend a lot of time in the back country and it is very reassuring to know that my firesteel will work the first time, every time. The optional palm scraper is also the best striker I have used thus far. It is easier to control and direct sparks with this striker and much easier to use when your fingers are numb from cold. I am not a trained survivalist but I know an exceptional product when I see it. I have three, one attached to each canteen that I use and I never go into the woods without one. Couple a great product with some of the best customer service I have experienced and you have a real winner.

  2. Great Product and Great Customer Service

Posted by Vince on Aug 4th 2015

A little research should reveal that this product is tops. I purchased the Armageddon and cannot believe any other fire steel can match it - you cannot go wrong with it. I had questions requiring contact and found the customer service to be stellar.

  3. The Gobspark is the best Fire starter on planet Earth.

Posted by Lee w. on Jul 28th 2015

I use the Gobspark to light fires all the time, camping hunting or just messing round. It has NEVER failed no matter the weather or conditions. Trust me this is the fire starter you need. Super hot sparks anytime.

  4. awesome sparks.

Posted by brian on Jul 12th 2015

This is the real deal. With the palm scraper it is the best i have seen. Works first strike - every time. Get one. Or get 5 like i did. You won't regret it.

  5. Best on the Market

Posted by T Haigler Lexington, NC on Jul 12th 2015

I wanted to thank you for the fast delivery and the excellent product the GobSpark Armageddon. I am very happy with the results, I was impressed with how easy and simple it was to get a fire started. What I used is what we have plenty in the south : Cedar trees.

I was lucky to have had uncles when I was growing up that that taught me how & what to look for in making fires. I started my first fire with bark strips from a cedar tree. What I did was slowly peel away strips of the outside bark with 2 fingers. The process took less than a minute. I then rolled all the bark in a small ball and ground it up in the palm of my two hands. After I had a tight ball with some light resin, I fluffed it up and placed it on a small rock. Within 6 or 7 strokes on the FireSteel the bark was on fire. We also had a very slight steady wind and I had no problems what so ever on getting a fire started. I recommend getting the Palm Scraper and Although not needed for this fire I would add a 3/8 x 5 Magnesium Tinder rod drilled. Thanks again to Ron and the fine team at Firesteel.com

  6. Amazing

Posted by Unknown on Jun 30th 2015

Purchased this some months ago and must say that I am very satisfied with it. It's small enough to pack away and bulky enough that my 4 year old can utilize it. It sparks a great deal more than the ones you can pick up from your local hardware store. It's really made starting a fire enjoyable instead of painful.

  7. GobSpark Armageddon is Amazing!!!!!

Posted by Chris O on Jun 25th 2015

Amazing firesteel. Feels good in the hand, nice firm grip. It rains down the sparks. I tested it with 3 clumps of dryer lint and 2 Vaseline cotton balls and each one lit up with just one strike on the steel!
Plus Ron is great to do business with. I don't buy my fire starting equipment anywhere else. Customer for life.....

  8. The real thing

Posted by Deb S on Jun 21st 2015

Looks like one of those 4th of July sparklers when struck properly. Excellent product!

  9. AMAZING!!!!

Posted by Josh DeLap on Jun 13th 2015

I absolutely love this product I will be posting a video on my YouTube showing how great it works. . 5 stars from me!!

  10. I've only tested it....

Posted by James Hart on Jun 11th 2015

I've only tested this using cotton balls and natural tinder, and in both cases one strike and I had fire. Cant imagine having any other fire steel. This one seems to be the best of the best, and I love the handle on both the fire steel, and the striker. I will try this out with both gloves and mittens when winter comes around. But I don't think there will be a problem. If your on the fence about the Gobspark Armageddon Firesteel, hop over and get one. Best firesteel for the money.

  11. awesome

Posted by Unknown on May 26th 2015

The firesteel works great. I got a fire going very quickly only using dry leaves. Best firesteel you can buy

  12. Prometheus would be proud!

Simply put the Gob is the best Fire Steel system ever devised.

Great product design and Excellent customer service

  13. Spark explosion

Posted by THOMAS ENGLISH on May 13th 2015

I have used the gob spark firesteel for the past two years to start fires in all kinds of conditions from dry to wet and soaking. The gob spark has never failed me. If one does their preparation for fire making the gobstart will do its job. Count on this to perform as if your life depends on it. It just may be the case. I'm still here and this is the only firesteel I carry. I am ordering more as I have given my other two GobSparks to friends who now have a product worth carrying.

  14. Excellent

Posted by Unknown on May 5th 2015

A great big huge fire steel with tons of hot sparks. The striker is # 1 also!

  15. Works for me every time.

  16. gobspark Armageddon

Posted by Sean Antill on Apr 15th 2015

Excellent tool for fire starting works very well excellent shower of spark's like the ergonomic design of the hand great addition to any outdoor gear

  17. Gobspark is right!

Posted by tower on Mar 29th 2015

Go spark is an apropos sobriquet for this item as it showers gobs of sparks on its target. The Palm scraper is extremely sharp and seems like it is far too hard to ever dull. The rod and striker fit together quite snugly so no worries of one losing the other. In case you are wondering, No, there is no free space in the palm scraper for tinder. It is all filled by the mischmetal.

  18. Excellent Product!

Posted by GT on Mar 27th 2015

Ok so I haven't used a fire steel in years, about 30 years actually. I did a lot of researching and looked at a lot of reviews before deciding on this one for price and recommendations.

First strike caught a piece of tinder immediately! definitely ordering a couple more as gifts.

  19. Great product.

Posted by Jessica on Mar 22nd 2015

Purchased for my husband as a gift. Works very very well. No problem using it out of the box. Very impressive. Will be purchasing more for our emergency kits.
