FireSteel Tubes
FireSteel.com Relaunches their World-Famous FireSteel Tubes!
When our FireSteel.com FireSteel Tubes™ first hit the market almost 10 years ago, they took fire making gear to a whole new level. We're pleased to finally be able to bring them back for you with the same quality and attention to detail that made them one of our original best-sellers.
We've put the finishing touches on the FireSteel Tube Pup...
...the FireSteel Tube Ranger...
as well as the FireSteel Tube Ranger Deluxe...
...and they were launched on December 8th, 2020. Quantities are limited, so don't dawdle if you want one. They're not going to last.
(The Armageddon and Bunker model tubes need a bit more work and will be coming early in 2021.)
Designed and manufactured right here in the USA (which means we get to keep jobs in the USA), FireSteel Tubes embody the quality and pride that make American industry great. These are not your mass-produced, flimsy, thin tubes you get at the discount store. They are high-quality, individually crafted, quality gear that is meant to LAST. Being as they are made one at a time, quantities are limited.
The aluminum components are made one at a time for us in a small "Mom & Pop" shop in the Midwest and then shipped to us for final assembly (adding the rods, compasses, lanyards, etc). We make any adjustments we need to make to ensure perfect fit of the rods and other components, including selection of only the highest grade firesteel rods, compasses, and scrapers for each tube.
In other words, we go through the components one by one to inspect them prior to assembly; the rods are checked for any nicks or other imperfections and the compasses are (one at a time) checked against a high quality compass to ensure they are accurate.
The compasses we use are all rated "Grade A"; they are liquid filled and luminous for up to an hour in the dark, are water resistant up to 30 feet underwater, and have an optimal working temperature range of -10° F to 110° F. That being said, we've used ours in temperatures lower than -20° F without a hitch, just be aware that EXTREME cold or heat may affect performance.
The FireSteel included in each tube is one of our genuine FireSteel.com FireSteel, which means you know you will get the same great results as you would with any of our other FireSteel (ferrocerium) products.
By the way, not all ferro rods (or ferrocerium rods) are made the same; they are an alloy of iron and cerium, and the relative proportions of iron to the other rare earths (of which Cerium is one) in the formula can mean a vast difference in performance. Our formula strikes just the right balance between softness (which makes the rods easy to scrape) and "hardness" (which makes the rods long-lasting).
The relative "softness" of our rods also means that when you scrape along the length of the rod, you will obtain great big blobs of molten metal with which to start your fire. Who wants to struggle with puny sparks when you're cold, hungry and wet? With our rods and your prepared tinder, just a few scrapes is all it takes to get your fire going when you need it.
Note that since all the rods are made with the same formula, you will obtain the same *quality* of sparks from each rod. That being said, since the *amount* of sparks is dependent on the amount of material being shaved off, you will naturally obtain bigger gobs of sparks from a larger diameter rod.
Additionally, all our FireSteel Tubes are designed to be highly water-resistant, as they all include an o-ring which seals the various compartments and keeps water and moisture out.
So choose your FireSteel.com FireSteel Tube depending on the use you're expecting to put it to:
Pick the FireSteel Tube Pup to attach to your keys so that you always have a way to start a fire, or keep it in your vehicle's glove compartment in case you're stranded and need to stay warm or send out a signal for help.
Pick the FireSteel Tube Ranger (no compass) or Ranger Deluxe (includes 14mm Grade A compass) if you want a slightly larger rod that will give off plenty of sparks, but is still light enough to use as your EDC or to pack when every ounce counts. This is also a good size to have in your RV, boat or other vehicle as well as your BOB.
Pick the FireSteel Tube Armageddon or Armageddon Deluxe when you need a larger rod and want to have an extra supply of paracord on you when you're out and about. Both models include a 20mm Grade A compass and come wrapped in approximately 12 feet of paracord plus the 3' lanyard which keeps it all together. The difference between the regular and deluxe models is that the FireSteel Tube Armageddon Deluxe has a separate tinder well and a built-in scraper. There is room in the rod compartment of the regular model to keep some tinder at the bottom, but the deluxe model really knocks it out of the park with its separate tinder well and built-in scraper, which you can unscrew then screw on backwards into the tinder compartment to give you a really ergonomic grip on the scraper. When you're done, screw it back in the other way and you're good to go!
Pick the FireSteel Tube Bunker or Bunker Deluxe when you need the best and most robust rod we make into a FireSteel Tube. Packing your INCH bag? Outfitting your remote camp? Just want the best? This is the model you want. With a rugged 1/2" diameter x 4" rod built in, you're looking at the potential of tens of thousands of fires in your hands. Like the Armageddon series, the FireSteel Tube Bunker are available in "Regular" and "Deluxe" models. Both come with a built-in 20mm Grade A compass and are wrapped in approximately 15 feet of paracord. The difference between the regular and deluxe models is that the deluxe has a separate tinder well and a built-in scraper. Think about it: how many fires will you likely start in your lifetime? You might want to consider a special place for this beast in your will so your kids don't fight over it. Or better yet, get one for each of them so you can have peace of mind in knowing that they're as prepared as you are.
