The FireSteel Survival™ Series by FireSteel.com are 5/16 of an inch thick.
The Survival 3.15 FireSteel with lanyard hole is 3.15 inches long
The lanyard hole in the FireSteel comes in handy when you want to add a lanyard or attach the firesteel to your gear.
An important note about lanyard holes in FireSteel.com FireSteels:
I do not recommend attempting to drill your own holes into a FireSteel! To drill a FireSteel safely requires rigourous saftey measures and specialized equipment - when a drill bit bites into the FireSteel it will produce a huge shower of sparks with temperatures over 5000 degrees F. The FireSteel sparks will also emit an exceedingly bright light.

I'm very happy with this product. Only time will tell on longevity but it definitely throws more spark than other steels I've owned. The lanyard hole is a plus.
Shipping was very fast. The products I purchased were at my mailbox in less than 48hrs from the time of the order. Customer for life now

I connect one of these firesteels and a Super Scraper together using a split-ring and then attach the split-ring to my car key ring. Whenever I have my car keys with me, I have the means to make a fire. I also keep a Firesteel, Super Scraper, compass and a Storm Emergency Whistle on a paracord lanyard in the glove box of each car.

The Firesteel with lanyard hole makes it simple to add a scraper, and even a magnesium bar, to assemble a great kit to have in the car, your go bag, or anywhere you might need fire-starting gear.

I've stashed these steels in every piece of gear that I carry. I've used them many times myself and now I put Ironwood handles on them and give them to friends. Great product!!

Throws a nice shower of sparks easily. I tried it with a few different scrapers, and even the spine of my Randall Model 18. I would gladly buy from Firesteel.com again!

This is for the Survival 3.15 ferro rod AND the Bunker 4.0, so please bear with me. I wear the 3.15 around my neck (with my cross) and I have it at all times. the size is (at 5/16") a light weight but easily held size and has enough body to make holding easy. I have played with it long enough to try to wear it out, but it just ain't gonna happen.
The Bunker 4.0 is short enough to hold but still put in a pocket and is a great 1/2" in diameter. I have played with it but have no illusions that I'll outlast it :) It is in my BOB at this time. price and durability is right. the 3.15 is easier to carry but both are quality items.
I make fires in my hibashi (sp?). I had a blast.
I was using petro-cotton balls and very wet twigs and had not one bit of trouble making fires. I think my neighbors thought I was nuts, but I had fun, which at that time was needed.

Ron has top quality products at a great price. I get supplies for the young men I mentor and send all my buddies here as well. Wouldn't do that if this wasn't the good stuff. This is the place for starting a fire...K

As usual, these are the best firesteels on the market. Service from Ron is prompt, and prices are more than fair. I would recomend these firesteels to anyone; and get the strikers; also excellent.

Have several sizes of FireSteels in my "small, medium, large and car" GO bags and on the ID tag chain around my neck. Also, the FireSteel scrapers are a quantum leap ahead.

This firesteel is no knock off with soft metals to scrape. It is huge and but not huge in size. fits right next to my stone pouch on my 499 survival knife. and goes with me everywhere in the backcountry even if i leave my pack behind for a scout i also know i have fire and the package I turned into my own tinder box just electrical tape it and pack it full of dryer lint and go start ur fire. so pleased with this product i want to get 5-10 more just for every other bag kit, survival kit, u name it or just have on ur neck.

I was worried that this one would be too small. So wrong! I've been scraping on this thing non stop, and it looks like it'll last forever! And this thing is just showering sparks! Very satisfied!
