While it is not the ideal size for "Survival" or Bushcraft, I gave it 5 stars because I believe its size is for EDC and is still much bigger than the rods you find in camping stores. I have 4 strand paracord looped through the lanyard hole, which I loop around my belt and the rod itself through, it hangs perfectly in my front pocket of my jeans, not quite reaching the bottom so it stays vertical nicely. This has been with me every single day since I've had it, somewhat of a harder steel so you have to apply a bit more pressure. Liked it so much I ordered another for my Dad and the Bunker model for my Bushcraft kit, both are currently en route and am very excited. Nicely done Ron!

This is my 4th purchase from FireSteel.com. The best I have found. Very fast shipping also.

I was very excited to receive one of these as I heard great things about firesteel.com, unfortunately my postal office had lost my package. I called and called them but all I really got was "oh we're sorry, maybe it'll turn up". Well I emailed Ron about my predicament to see if he knew of any solutions. He was very helpful in contacting his postmaster and keeping me in the loop of any updates or possible solutions. In the end the package could not be found but Ron was so kind as to send me another one. I am very very pleased with the service of firesteel.com and super excited about my firesteel

Got the fire steel last night and was ready to give it a try. I have never used a fire steel before so was not sure what to expect, but I was able to get a fire started first try. This fire steel is awesome and look forward to having it in my camping kit to use to start my gas stove, and to get some fires going when needed in the back country. I have the benchcraft bushcrafter and the fire steel fits perfectly in the leather fire steel slot on the sheath. Well worth the money and will buy more when needed from firesteel.com.

Having been present when lesser quality ferrocerium rods and magnesium bars failed to perform for friends I chuckle, pull out my Armegeddon rod knowing what to expect, strike a shower of sparks at the cotton balls (treated with petroleum jelly) and chuckle again as the cotton ball ignites, usually with the first strike. My brother refers to me as "the fire guy" with a smile but preparation/experience is the key. Those "good deal" rods aren't worth risking a cold night for. With over six decades experience in the outdoors it doesn't take long to weed-out junk quickly. I only use and recommend "ferro" rods from Firesteel.com. Most of my friends now use them as well (at my expense). I have given several of these to friends and keep several stashed away in my kits. Be aware that some chemicals can cause erosion on any ferro rod if in direct contact. I split a plastic straw and cover the rod. Also, a good striker makes a big difference in the amount of sparks given. Ron"s Super Striker works well as does a sharp spine of a knife. I get the most dramatic results from a small carbide-tipped pruner sharpener but it can wear the rod quickly - on the flip side it is a great shaver for making a quick pile of magnesium shavings from one of Ron's mag rods and the tool will also sharpen a knife. One tool - multiple uses. With Christmas coming I expect to place yet another order from Firesteel. Great products, great service and fast shipping!

I made my first purchase at firesteel.com and received my Firesteel Armageddon 4.0 with the lanyard hole very promptly. I am planning on creating a custom holder for this steel and look forward to using it.
The quality is excellent, the shipping was excellent -- I will definitely purchase from Firesteel.com again!

After finding as much info about where to find good quality Fero rods I decided to try these. I am not disappointed. These seem to be very high quality. I will probably pick up a few more after I put some use on the ones I got. Even after doing a so-so job of putting a 90 Degree spine on an older knife I had, these are throwing some good sparks. Obviously they shine with a better striking surface.

Great product- I buy these, put a nice Ironwod handle on them and give them to friends. Heard nothing but good remarks.

Throws large sparks and easy to start fire with. Nice size for a fire kit. Large enough to hold but not too large to be overkill. That said i will probably buy a larger one to keep in another area of my gear just in case

Very impressed with amount of sparks

It makes good sparks and is nice to have a larger diameter steel. I tried to set the shipping paper on fire with it and almost succeeded. Lol Not appropriate tender but almost worked. Good product.

I've used firesteels exclusively for years. These firesteels have replaced all the butane lighters in all my camping gear. The firesteels always work - Year after year. They never leak out. They are limited only by your tinder. They are particularly superb for lighting my coleman stove, or my MS-multifuel, or char-cloth. One strike; fire.
I do prefer using the FireSteel Scraper - more than adequate, and using the back of your camp-knife is sometimes awkward. A single 8" lanyard between the firesteel and scraper ensure the two are always together.
I highly recommend this product -- I will buy again.

Extremely high quality with a ton of sparks from every strike. I also got the striker which I think is worth it. Great value already looking to buy some more from here.

the 4 inch by 3/8 inch dia. Armageddon throws off the best sparks of all the ferro rods I have used by far. I would highly recommend and buy again if the need ever arose. Although I'm guessing this thing will probably last me a lifetime

I recently ordered this item, and paid by money order. I thought I paid the correct amount, but Ron found a cheaper means of shipping, and included a Pup firesteel in my order as a second item. It was a very pleasant surprise to see the second ferro rod in with my order. I used that Pup firesteel to introduce a friend of mine from work to the world of wilderness self-reliance.
